It’s my party and I’ll blog if I want to!

Twenty-six years ago at 1:13 in the morning on August 13th, my parents received this tiny bundle of joy, weighing in at 7lbs 13oz. Look at me posing all cute for my first close-up! I was apparently in a state of concentration for this moment because I didn’t make a sound when I came out. Although it scared mom, thinking that I wasn’t alive, I made up for my silence over the years with many check marks by my name on the boards at school. I even got sent to the principle’s office in 6th grade for talking too much. It was epic and a date that will live on in history forever. haha!

I remember my older sister often asking me with a stone cold face, “Do you EVER stop talking?” Of course I would answer, “Nope, and you wanna hear somethin’ else?” And on and on I would go. I could always find something to talk about. And if I couldn’t, I would just repeat everything I just said in a british accent.

The whole idea behind the photo shoot you are about to see came about after seeing a cute, pink dress at Belk that reminded me of a cupcake. My mom and I were just browsing around and the moment I saw this dress I became inspired to do a shoot for my 26th birthday. Before she knew it, my mom was being roped into one of my shenanigans again. My mom and I are quite the visionaries so once we get something in our heads, we HAVE to make it happen. Balloons and a cupcake stool soon followed. Before we get to those pictures, however, let’s take a look at a few birthdays past.

Happy birthday to me! My mom took all these photos and she hasn’t seen ANY since the day of the shoot. SURPRISE! My mom has no idea how to work my camera but I coached her through it! She took every picture in manual mode. Isn’t that amazing?! Way to go, mom! Would anyone come to a workshop to learn how to use their SLR camera if I taught it? hmmm . . . wheels are turning . . .

I feel like Mary Poppins in this next picture.  Take me away, balloons!

I couldn’t believe that we had blue sky with puffy white clouds the day of my shoot! That’s my FAVORITE for photos!

Christin from Elea Blake Cosmetics and Bray from Hair-a-go-go got me completely glammed up for my shoot!  I always, always, always recommend their services.  They go above and beyond the call of duty and make for a really fun experience!

I have to be honest. I’m not exactly where I thought I would be at the age of 26. However, I never thought I would be a photographer either. Life is full of surprises and I can’t wait to see what I’ll be saying about my life at this time next year. Let it be written:

In ten years, I see myself with Dr. Line in a mid-sized, tastefully decorated, Ballard Designs inspired home. I’ll have two little girls under the age of five and a chocolate-brown toy poodle with a white spot on its chest running around my feet. We’ll adopt a big dog from an animal shelter but it will have to stay outside or in the garage. I’ll finally learn to enjoy cooking and get back to baking my famous Christmas cookies. And Lord willing, I’ll have a different car that I will appreciate for another ten years.

In forty years (yeah, I can’t think to 50 years from now), Nathan and I will have a flat in Italy that we’ll visit every summer. By a vintage looking window, I’ll drink my cappuccinos and write the memoirs of my life, of the people that I have met, and what I hope for in the future. In the next room over, Nathan will have finally gotten the funds to buy a Rosetta Stone and learn Italian. On the weekends, we’ll travel by train to surrounding countries and cities and reminisce about how we backpacked Europe for two months after college by ourselves. I’ll try my hand at film, doing away with digital cameras, and soak up the beauty of this world once more.

Now let’s see if it all comes true :)

I think you just made every girl in Tennessee want a birthday photo shoot!

Great way to celebrate the birthday, Lori. Your mom’s not a bad photographer, is she? You look exaclty like mary kate & ashley in your toddler photos. I do hope you had an excellent birthday and got everything you wished for! I might have to think about hiring you two to make me look good on my birthday…Maybe birthday shoots for us slightly older but still amazing women would be a growth area…..

That’s funny that you think I looked like one of the Olsen Twins! haha! I have heard that from a few people when they see pictures of me around the age of 4. And I agree, everyone should have a birthday shoot at some point in their lives! It’s a very refreshing way to celebrate that fear of getting older!
