Brittany and Kevin Engaged!

I hate history but I love to reminisce. I find it strange that a smell, sometimes even the way the wind blows, or how the sun sets among the clouds can bring me back to a moment. Sometimes it draws a smile and other times it makes my heart ache. I hate change but my job is to capture the milestones or turning points. What is it about the “in between” that I find so alluring then? Maybe it’s the random and unknown. Maybe it’s the struggle or drama that makes life so interesting. Or maybe . . . just maybe it’s that we don’t realize that time is passing and that growth and change are already occurring. Leave it up to a milestone to slap you right back into time’s reality. I. am. getting. old.

Since college Nathan and I have watched our friends grow and change. Brittany and Kevin are no exception. It’s funny the feelings you can conjure up when you place a milestone in the heart of the “in between.” For Brittany and Kevin’s engagement session, we went back to our old stomping ground UTC.

It’s amazing how glamorous your place of growth can look after you’re gone. “This is where it all began,” you might think. “This is the tree where friends met up to go to lunch. That is the building where I went to class. This is the street where we painted homecoming signs. That is the hill where flirty glances, hugs, and maybe even a little pot or adderall were exchanged.” Just keepin’ it relevant folks, no judgement. “This is the place where life happened.”

For many, milestones are a moment of conquer and for Brittany and Kevin a diamond was its symbol. The road had been cut. The situation had been weighed. The gray was gone. The decision was clear. In a moment of clarity, Kevin placed a ring on Brittany’s finger. On July 30, 2011 friends will gather and remember how it all began. Until then, here are a few of my favorite images from Brittany and Kevin’s session to help us through the “in between.”

We finished up our session at the Hunter Art Museum.

Lori- I love all your pics (and always have)! I wish Brad and I lived in Chattanooga because I would LOVE for you to take engagement-like pics of us! We might be moving there next summer for B to start his residency! If so, I’m definitely going to see if we can hook up for a session!
