Depending on who you are, my name is Lori, Lori Ann, kitty, lolobobo, lorbie-doobie, or ANIMAL (like the Muppets). Most people will probably tell you that I haven’t changed much since grade school. Although some might view that as a put-down, I see it as a compliment. It makes me feel good that despite the ups and downs of life, the essence of who I am has not been chipped away. I love to make people smile, laugh, and feel beautiful! If you’re happy about something, I’ll want to celebrate your happiness with you by doing something “over the top.”
Recently, I was asked if I am living the life I thought I would be 10 years ago. My response immediately was “not at ALL!” However, the older I get the more I realize that I march to the beat of my own drum and seize opportunity as it presents itself. My husband Nathan and I tied the knot October 18, 2008. Since then, we both left the corporate world to follow our dreams. I am now in my fourth year of my business and Nathan is months away from completing UT’s Hospitality, Retail, and Tourism Management Ph.D. Program WITH a 4.0! ;) In the midst of all these changes, everyone in my family has moved (more like moved away from me . . . um, RUDE!). haha! When my parents decided to move to Blowing Rock, NC, they instructed me to come home and clear out my old bedroom. Basically, I had to sift through everything that I had ever owned (toys, books, gadgets, and clothes).
Though everything seemed to remind me of someone or some memory, I had to part with most of it. What surprised me the most, however, is how much I enjoyed writing as a child. Although I wasn’t always consistent, I found several journals, diaries, storybooks, letters, and notes that I had written. AND it was amazing how many notes and letters that I kept from others! In addition to all this, I found pictures everywhere, hidden in odd places at times. Even though my mom stood beside me with a trash bag repeating two simple yet devastating words “toss it,” I simply could not throw away certain things. Whether it reminded me of something happy or painful, I had to keep it because it was a part of me. My memoirs are like the streets and avenues of my journey which have led me here. Besides, some of it was just down right hilarious! By reading my blog, you’ll get to know “little Lori,” “big girl Lori,” and all the people that I have met in between.
