Blake and Amanda Married!: Sam Davis Home – Smyrna, TN

I live to tell stories whether it’s my own or someone else’s. For me, photography has been the means to my true passion. However, over time we often forget the details to even the best of stories. At Amanda and Blake’s wedding, we discovered the couple who had been married the longest through a sort of “dance off” game played by the DJ. After applauding the couple for their many years of marriage, the DJ asked this couple to perhaps give some words of wisdom to the newlyweds or to reflect on their own marriage. The husband delivered a very poignant message. He said, “Years from now you’ll only remember what made this day unique . . . like that it was really cold.” Indeed, Amanda and Blake had a surprisingly cold outside wedding in April. In fact, not even my winter weddings were this cold. This is something that I will always remember. However, I think that I will also recall a few other things even after the years have passed. For instance, I will remember that despite this very cold spring day, Amanda and Blake’s spirits were never dampened. I will remember the way Amanda’s laugh sounds when I see an image of that moment.

I will remember how Amanda looks just like her father . . . and somehow like her mother too. I will remember that Emi, my second shooter, sacrificed her jacket to keep the bride warm through pictures. I will remember the moment when I realized that Blake gets his light-hearted personality from his dad. I will remember Blake telling me that Amanda called the local airport to see if they would not fly over the Sam Davis Home during their ceremony. I will remember that the planes came anyway ;) I will remember how Amanda had to stop a moment and laugh at herself because she couldn’t stop stepping on the front of her dress as she walked down the aisle. I will remember the sweet yet somber moment that washed over the audience as a pre-recorded song was sung by someone who could only be there in spirit during the ceremony. I will remember the way Amanda and Blake can hold each other so close. I will remember that Amanda and Blake were my first official cake smashers!  And last, but not least, I will remember how much fun this day really was. Here are just a few of my favorite images from their day:
